Product Design Manager Tommi Järvelä: Hands-On Problem Solving

Initially, he wasn’t sure how long he’d stay, given his background in vehicle and transport engineering. However, year by year, the role grew on him. ‘I never expected to stay this long, but the work kept getting more engaging’, Tommi reflects. ‘Vahterus is always evolving, which makes the job both interesting and secure.’

What has kept you at Vahterus all these years?

The work itself is fascinating. You’re constantly learning something new, so there’s no chance to get bored. Plus, the team here is great. I’m a hands-on person by nature, and I’ve always enjoyed being able to work with my hands – that's been possible at Vahterus.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

As a team manager, my main focus is on supporting and leading my team, providing technical assistance and solving problems.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

With four kids – aged 20, 18, 13, and 11 – my free time is pretty full. Family has always been a huge part of my life, providing a great balance to work. We love to challenge each other in frisbee and golf, or I work on old cars with my eldest son. Sports have always been important to me. Lately, I’ve been trying to carve out more time for jogging and swimming during the week.
