Suction-Gas Superheaters
In many DX refrigeration systems and Heatpump systems it is necessary to use a Suction-Gas Superheater to avoid liquid slugging into the compressors. Liquid slugging in larger scale will often create a fatal damage of the compressors. It is most often to use the warm condensate to heat up the suction gas since this will then be a COP neutral process.
Be aware that for high temperature heatpumps with most natural refrigerants it is crucial to use also preheaters and during operation to ensure a substantial superheat to avoid suction line condensation and even during compression of the gas inside the compressor. Ask compressor manufacturers for min. superheat at given refrigerant to avoid mistake.
