Vahterus PSHE for natural refrigerant applications
Vahterus has brought many innovations to the refrigeration industry and remains active in developing new solutions for the future. Our focus is on applications that use natural refrigerants, where fully welded plate & shell heat exchangers are the perfect fit.
Vahterus works closely with the world’s leading chiller manufacturers to develop customised products and entire product ranges. As heat recovery is becoming more and more important in the fight against global warming, we have developed new technologies for the growing market of heat pumps.

Vahterus PSHE Combined Evaporator
The Vahterus Combined Evaporator is a heat exchanger where the droplet separation system is integrated with a flooded evaporator, making it a particularly efficient and compact system. The product has been developed to reduce the dimensions of a traditional evaporator and separator system. Furthermore, it is designed to minimise the refrigerant charge.
The Combined solution integrates the evaporator and separation system within a single vessel, which makes installation easier. Its compact design enables easy integration into packages and provides additional benefits such as savings on insulation and associated piping. Vahterus PSHE Combined is often the best solution when space is very limited.

Vahterus PSHE Combined C
Vahterus has also developed a second-generation combined evaporator, Combined C, for even more compact refrigeration packages. The model has an ammonia suction connection on the end plate of the shell. The connection size will be matched to the shell size of the unit. Another innovation is the location of the ammonia injection close to the outer shell. The top of the shell is designed so that it will remain free from any connections. This will enable the positioning of other components such as a condenser on top of the evaporator, with only a small space for insulation required between the units.
The Combined C is a very safe solution for ammonia with low charge. Download the Combined C product sheet as a PDF below.

Vahterus Heat Pump Issue 2023
In our latest Hot & Cold Magazine we focus on our heat pump solutions for the next generation.
Editorial
Industrial Heat Pumps - A Closer Look at The High-Demand Solution
The last two years have been filled with uncertainties, due to COVID and the war in Ukraine. Exhibitions and events have been on hold, as has this magazine. But today, you’re holding in your hand a new issue of Hot & Cold, which we hope you’ll enjoy reading.
In this issue, we focus on heat recovery and energy saving – in particular heat pumps. Because of the urgent need to solve global warming and the current energy crisis, with very high prices and scarce availability of fossil fuels, totally new technical solutions need to be developed. Heat exchangers are key to all these solutions, where the main requirement is compact, safe and high thermal efficiency.
In this issue, we discuss the differences between heat pumps, exploring what happens when using various refrigerants in heat pumps and their environmental impact. Our conclusion is that if we want to prevent global warming and environment pollution, the only acceptable refrigerants are natural ones such as ammonia, CO2, propane and butane. If we all go in this direction, huge developments will be made, not only in heat pumps, but also chillers. With hundreds of millions of small-sized heat pumps and chiller-freezers in operation, this is an urgent question to be solved – the faster the better.
Global warming brings many interesting challenges for heat-exchanger manufacturing, with a growing market and increasing demand for innovative solutions such as thermal efficiency in chillers, heat pumps and fuel systems. Together with you, our trusted partners, we at Vahterus have worked for over 30 years on natural refrigerant development. We hope that you will continue to push us in that direction in the future. Together, we can discover sustainable solutions to tackle climate change and ensure a safe environment for the next generations.
Together we succeed!
